Tips
Some mini bottles are harder to open than others. For particularly stubborn mini bottles, it may be easier to place the Mini Opener on the cap at a 45 degree angle and then twist counter-clockwise to open.
The Mini Opener "in the raw" is not coated with any nickel plating. It is literally the raw aluminum zinc metal. As with any raw metal, color transfer can occur if metal is rubbed against fabric.
Questions
Will my opener get scratched?
Mini Openers are made of an aluminum zinc mixture. Aluminum is very light weight but the zinc adds incredible strength to the Mini Opener. The Mini Openers (with exception of the "Raw" opener) are all nickel electroplated. This is a process where the raw Mini Openers are placed in baths of electrolyte fluid and then nickel ions are formed in the solution which attach to the Mini Openers and coat them with the colored nickel finishes that you see. The nickel layer provides decorative color, corrosion resistance, and wear resistance. Because the nickel electroplating process is done by hand and the ionic deposits flow naturally through the electrolyte solutions, it is possible to see a naturally occurring variance in the color deposits and thickness of nickel plated on the products.
My "gold" colored opener has changed colors, what happened?
The gold colored Mini Openers are actually brass nickel electroplated and we all know what brass can do....it can tarnish. All of the brass nickel openers are coated with an additional layer of clear coat to help ward off this process. Eventually the coating can wear off. If you do notice any tarnishing you can just polish the opener with a clean soft cloth.
